Welcome to part 2 of the Self-worth Challenge.

You can find Day 1 if you click here.

We’ve talked about the importance of developing self-awareness as one of the steps to gaining insight into your own self-worth with the intention of improving it. Your development of your own self-awareness is now a work in progress. You’re starting to see yourself as you really are.

Self-acceptance

The next aspect of the self-worth journey is learning to accept yourself as you really are right now. This may come as a surprise, but you don’t have to get better at anything. Total acceptance can start to happen right now!

That’s ALL aspects of you; the good, the not so good and the bits you’d rather not see at all.

Acceptance means seeing who you are and embracing it. It’s about acknowledging that your journey has brought you here to this time right now, and that you’re aligning towards your potential.

Perhaps check in with yourself how you’re feeling about that prospect, because you might feel some resistance. This is normal.

Sometimes it’s hard to accept the good bits; it can feel like we’re getting too full of ourselves and we could do better if we tried.

Sometimes it’s hard to accept the ‘bad’ bits; it can feel like we’re condoning bad behaviour.

But it doesn’t have to mean this.

Todays challenge

For today’s challenge, I’d like you to pick one positive and one negative aspect about yourself that you find hard to accept, from your notes from Part 1 of this blog ,

Then give yourself some time to think about what it is that gets in the way of you accepting what is actually fact about yourself.

Jot down what comes to mind.

How can you work through this and accept that part of you?

What it you don’t accept yourself?

If we are not accepting who we are, we’re actually taking a position that is in conflict with the truth. It’s setting us up for an internal struggle that can never be resolved. In other words it’s not healthy for us. It needs to be all parts of ourselves that we accept and not just a few, for the same reason, if we want to be at peace and not fighting internally.

Until you learn to accept yourself, you will never feel good enough.

Acceptance doesn’t mean we’re just sitting back and doing nothing. We got to be in this position because of past events. We can’t change that. Every action had a reason. We can accept that was so and we are here.

Acceptance actually allows us to take stock of the truth and see what needs fixing, instead of hiding it in the back of our mind. It’s firm ground that we can build upon.

Acceptance is a choice you can make.

In the strongest terms possible; self-acceptance is fundamental to mental wellbeing.

Let me write that again.

In the strongest terms possible; self-acceptance is fundamental to mental wellbeing.

Making a choice

Some people can make a sweeping decision to embrace all parts of themselves when they understand its importance. Other people need to work it through piece by piece. Every day as new things come to light there is more to accept.

Do you believe self-acceptance is important?

Even if you’re finding it hard to do, will you make a commitment to work it?

I’ll soon be posting part 3 of the Self-worth Challenge. It might help you to accept all of yourself. I look forward to seeing you there!

Self-worth counselling

Acknowledging and fostering self-worth is at the heart of much of the therapeutic work I do. Our innate self-worth that we are born with and entitled too, tends to get lost along the way as we start to believe that we have to be or behave in a certain way to have value in the eyes of others and to be happy with ourselves. If you’d like to explore what therapy for self-worth is about you can contact me to arrange a free half hour chat.

As a therapist in Bradford on Avon, I am committed to helping individuals navigate their emotional challenges and improve their overall quality of life.
